I'm a recovering-attorney-turned-entrepreneur, and after a long and winding journey (of which Tranquil Space played a HUGE part), I found my calling as a yoga teacher and studio owner. I practiced for nearly five years as a Big Law associate before jumping ship to build a career that actually used my superpowers and passions. Two years - and a few other careers - later, I opened East Side Yoga, my first yoga studio, in Washington, DC in early 2015. Four years later, I moved back to my hometown of Austin, TX and opened Oak + Lotus, my second studio, in the rapidly growing St. Elmo District of south Austin.

When COVID-19 hit in 2020, I had to make the heartbreaking decision to permanently close my DC studio. However, I was able to unite our community online under the Oak + Lotus umbrella, and am so grateful that the internet allows us to stay connected and continue practicing together. I plan to reopen my Austin studio in summer 2021, and can't wait to return to teaching and practicing and connecting in person!

Tranquil Space played a HUGE role in my yoga journey. I first joined the TS community at the very beginning of my yoga journey, right after graduating from law school and moving to DC. A friend of mine had gifted me Kimberly's book Hip Tranquil Chick, and while hot pink and leopard print aren't exactly my vibe, there was a LOT of wonderful wisdom in that book that really resonated with me. Practicing at the Dupont studio quickly become a non-negotiable part of my weekly routine and a key part of my stress-management strategy as I navigated the challenges of working in Big Law.

After my world was shattered by the grief of unexpectedly losing my father, I spent a month hiding out in Costa Rica, crying into the ocean and practicing yoga twice a day. This was the deepest I had ever dived into my yoga practice, and I discovered that it offered a number of incredibly powerful tools that I had yet to explore. So upon returning to DC, I began my teacher training journey with Tranquil Space. And it changed my life.

I entered teacher training with no intention of teaching. I simply wanted to learn more and avail myself of the deeper tools of yoga. By the end of it, I had discovered a passion and calling to teaching that I never knew existed. Transitioning my role in the community from student to trainee to teacher was an exciting journey, and I learned SO much about myself and how to show up in community through all of it.
