Morocco Art & Culture Retreat with Nicole Griffin
Throughout our 10-days and 11-nights together, you will enjoy exclusive, off-the-beaten path tours to discover the creative heartbeat of Morocco. This trip begins at Maison28, in the heart of the Marrakech medina, and then winds down south through ancient cultures and kasbahs, and culminates under the stars in the Sahara Desert.
During our trip, we will visit and learn from local artisans and stewards of Morocco’s famous craft culture. You will enjoy private tours, hands-on creative workshops and opportunities to learn and deeply connect with Moroccan culture.
We will be in Morocco during the holy month of Ramadan, which offers a unique and intimate opportunity to experience Moroccan Islamic traditions firsthand.
If you are a creative, curious, and adventurous traveler looking for a special and highly-curated experience, you are in the right place.
While this is not a yoga retreat, there will be mindfulness elements infused to nourish our bodies and souls as we explore and expand.

Sahara Desert Extension Trip with Nicole Griffin
Embark on a 5-day exploration of the cultures of Southern Morocco and the Sahara Desert. En route to the Sahara, we will travel along ancient caravan roads, visit historic kasbahs and palaces, and will learn about local artisans. The dramatic landscape transitions from mountains to gorges to oases and eventually to the desert. We will spend two nights under the stars at a luxury desert camp, riding camels, hiking up dunes, and resting in the vast open space. We will learn about traditional Bedouin (nomadic) cultures, have coffee as we watch the sunrise over the dunes, and have plenty of down time. On the way back, we will visit an Amazigh carpet stronghold (the perfect place to buy a carpet) and visit a saffron plantation. We will round out our trip by heading back through the mountains, where we will stop for lunch in a rose garden, and spend one last night in Marrakesh. The following morning, guests will be transported back to the airport to catch departing flights. Since the Sahara Desert is very remote, we have carefully curated this trip in order to break up the driving. This will allow us to see more of this fascinating region of Morocco while spending less time in the car each day. Expect to spend about 5 hours each day driving and expect a range of accommodations on the road (from desert camp to budget hotel to full-service hotel).

Morocco Yoga & Culture Retreat with Nicole Griffin
Spend 8 days and 7 nights in the stunning Ourika Valley. Our beautiful retreat center is 45 minutes south of Marrakech. Here, you will enjoy striking mountain views, expertly landscaped gardens, and a fully-equipped yoga studio. Throughout your stay, you will eat delicious homemade Moroccan food. Likewise, you will relax, renew, sip mint tea, and immerse yourself in the vibrancy and hospitality of Morocco. We will have 1-2 yoga sessions each day. Our morning sessions will include vinyasa yoga and short meditations. Our evening sessions will include yin and restorative yoga. While a basic level of yoga experience is very helpful, all sessions will be appropriate for everyone. Additionally, each day will feature curated cultural activities. Expect to meet a diverse range of real people while in Morocco. My yoga retreats emphasize meaningful cultural immersion & mindful travel. The practices of yoga & mindfulness provide the ground as we connect, discover, and expand. All of my yoga retreats give back to local charities that empower women and girls.

American Detox Book Chat
Join Kat Buechel and Nicole Griffin for a conversation about the book American Detox by Kerri Kelly.
The myth of wellness isn’t making us well. And until we confront the toxicity of our culture and systems, we won’t ever truly heal.
In American Detox, Kerri Kelly—community organizer and wellness activist—sounds a wake-up call. The wellness that we are so relentlessly seeking is only possible when we embody a mutual responsibility that goes beyond self care towards collective wellbeing. Through powerful storytelling, critical analysis and new/old wisdom, Kerri tackles America’s toxic culture rooted in perfectionism, white supremacy and individualism and explores a new paradigm for personal and societal wellness that is radical, relational and resilient. Along the way, she offers tangible practices and strategies for how to detox from the culture of separation, supremacy and scarcity and show up for the wellbeing of the whole. It is a timely book that disrupts the status quo and provokes radical responsibility, while also nourishing and sustaining our resistance and resilience. American Detox is a “personal reckoning meets citizen handbook” about waking up, reclaiming our wholeness and transforming our country from the inside-out.

Social Justice Sangha
On Sunday, June 6th, the TSTC social justice sangha got together for the first time since crafting our social justice statement, to begin talking about Susanna Barkataki's book Embrace Yoga's Roots: Courageous Ways to Deepen Your Practice. It was a wide-ranging discussion that ended with this provocative question posed by Lauren Borchard: Should I be teaching yoga, and if yes, is what I am teaching yoga?
If you're interested in this question and its possible answers, join us on Wednesday, July 14th at 7 p.m. for a revolutionary sangha in honor of Bastille Day as we delve deeper into the thorny issue of cultural appropriation in yoga and challenge each other to consider how our practices as students and teachers can serve the social justice movement.

Registration is pay-what-you-can, but any amount you can contribute will go directly to support covid relief efforts in India (thank you to our friends Annie and Amir at Sun & Moon Yoga Studio here in the DMV for curating this list!), which is buckling under its latest pandemic surge. This event will be led by Linette Hwu and Carol Collins. Please read our latest blog post for more context.

Restorative and Yoga Nidra

Please sign up at least one hour prior to class and a Zoom link will be sent to you to access class.

Yoga Mentorship Program
Senior DMV-based teachers, Catherine Marquette, founder of Move. Breathe. Be. of Washington, D.C., and Kat Buechel, founder of 321 OM Fitness Yoga of Alexandria, VA, have partnered together to create an in-person mentorship program for new and experienced teachers alike who are seeking inspiration, education and an overall sense of community.
What We’ll Cover
In this first mentorship weekend, we’ll review Surya Namaskar A, B and C with Virabhadrasana 3 (Warrior 3) as the “peak pose”. We’ll explore it Friday night in a 90-minute masterclass and spend Saturday morning breaking the class apart and rebuilding it during a 2-hour sequencing workshop. After a lunch break, we’ll come back together and spend time practice teaching, incorporating lessons learnt from the night before’s class and that morning’s review.
Mentees will have homework, writing their own 60-minute sequence due Monday morning. Catherine and Kat will meet with the group Tuesday night during a 90-minute Q&A session, providing individual feedback on each mentee’s sequence while sharing universal feedback with the collective whole.
