Mary Lyle Buff
Mary Lyle grew up in the riparian wilderness of an old farm. In adolescence, she practiced yoga and Tai Chi to enhance her breath-work and strength for athletic performance. In adulthood, it became a path through the dense underbrush of anxiety.
Today, it is the deep current of awareness and truth into which she is attempting to relax. In the end, yoga is a journey home to roots and metaphors that she is only beginning to understand. Like so many mysteries of chance, she found Tranquil Space through her cousin's practice and was immediately home. Through classes, teacher training, and the TS community experience, her style and tradition were nurtured.
In her classes, Mary Lyle invites you to find your feeling of home and meet today's edge with steadiness and ease. Inspired by the river she grew up on, her classes serve to support and surprise through playful, energizing, and soothing sequences. A deep lover of vibration and language, Mary Lyle works to give each class its own unique feel and experience whether moving to a soulful ballad or the gentle rush of breath. Her background in psychology, athletic training, and an ever-growing love of yoga philosophy and history weave into each class. She strives to expand her own practice and greet the needs of her students with humility, gratitude, and love while respecting the ancient and powerful traditions of yoga.
She taught at the Dupont studio on Friday mornings, and the Arlington Studio on Wednesday nights playing with Open Flow Vinyasa and Yoga I postures/sequences respectively in addition to regular subbing throughout the studios and yoga at work locations across the District.
