Maura Danehey

As part of Tranquil Space Arlington’s teaching team, Maura closed and launched the weeks, leading Sunday night Restorative and Monday morning Vinyasa. She was known for her calm voice, anatomical focus, and love for mornings.

At Tranquil Space and now beyond, Maura creates practices that meet people where they are in the moment, herself knowing the feeling of both simultaneously dreading and craving “mat time” in equal bits. And she guides students on how to incorporate yoga into everyday life.

Since 2010, Maura has developed and led holistic fitness and yoga classes that invite practitioners to discovered hidden strengths. She has worked with diverse populations (e.g., elementary-aged girls, senior citizens, college students, individuals with Down Syndrome, women battling eating disorders, competitive athletes, individuals with movement disorders, people managing PTSD and anxiety, individuals coping with grief, people with brain injuries, etc.) with disparate goals in a variety of settings.

In 2019, Maura’s teaching was once again transformed when she became a brain injury survivor. Her experience healing enhanced her already keen awareness of how to build classes that are accessible, challenging and empowering for all participants.

Maura was introduced to Tranquil Space by her cousin – a longtime yogi – and completed Tranquil Space’s 200-hour teacher training. Maura is a Yoga Alliance Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT-200) and an ACE Group Fitness Instructor. Maura still loves early morning practices and receives compliments regularly about her voice’s calming composition and her knowledge of the human body.
